It is with great pleasure that Lovell Corporation announces our CEO Kelly Lovell has been named Startup Canada’s Young Entrepreneur of the Year at tonight’s Ontario awards gala. The Startup Canada Awards can be likened to the Oscars for the Canadian entrepreneurship community – celebrating and recognizing the individuals, communities and institutions that have demonstrated innovation, excellence, outstanding achievement and impact in advancing Canadian entrepreneurship.

The Young Entrepreneur Award recognizes entrepreneurs 25-and-under who have impacted Canadian entrepreneurship through exemplary activities and leadership of their startup companies.

“I am deeply touched by this award. Building a business is never easy, but starting one when you are young comes with its own set of added challenges. I had no prior experience when I first started out, but what I did have was a passion to solve a problem,” Kelly Lovell shares in reflecting on her journey.  “This purpose is at the heart of becoming a successful entrepreneur. There will be challenges, but if you are passionate enough about the problem you want to solve, you will find a way to succeed.”

This award represents Kelly Lovell’s 16th distinction for leadership and innovation since starting her journey as an entrepreneur in 2013. Under her leadership, Lovell Corporation has become one of Canada’s premier youth consultancy firms, with divisions in digital media, research and development, SaaS software, marketing, and consulting.

Putting Lovell Corporation’s youth insights into action, Kelly Lovell is also CEO of My Effect Inc., a social enterprise that specializes in ICT and data solutions to help organizations engage the next generation through social action. As the first ever small-medium sized enterprise to become a Collaborating Partner of Impact 2030, MyEffect’s current focus is tracking skills-based volunteering and social impact achievements that advance of the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals.

With a mission to foster Canadian entrepreneurship spirit among her peers, Kelly has founded several startup initiatives that harness media and technology to provide mentorship, skill-building, and entrepreneurship support for youth. Notable projects include: a short documentary that profiles the stories of exceptional young entrepreneurs to combat ageist stereotypes; a global education project that introduces students to social entrepreneurship and key problems affecting today’s world through the lens of their peers across 59 different countries; and, a personal development platform that helps youth track the transferable skills they gain from community service and extracurricular leadership.

Representing Canadian innovation and entrepreneurship on the global stage, Lovell was also chosen to be a 2017 G20 Young Entrepreneurs Alliance delegate for Canada – a role tasked with helping to build policy recommendations for G20 governments that focus upon innovation and entrepreneurial education to address job creation and youth employment.

"I attribute my success to date to the many mentors and advisors that have supported me during the various stages of my journey, including Startup Canada. It is my hope that through my work, I can do the same for my peers and pave an easier path for more aspiring young entrepreneurs to succeed.” – Kelly Lovell
